Using the conceptual framework presented by Amott and Mattaei for understanding differences in women’s economic position, explain how gender, race-ethnicity, and class are interconnected.
The work experience of women and their economic position played
an important role in the economic activities of human being. Amott
and Mattei classified the work experience of the women in six major
racial ethnic groups; American, Indian, Chicana, European American,
African American, Asian American and Puerto Rican. Women position
in the economic activity is different for these six ethnic groups.
There is a complexities of both paid and unpaid labour and
illustrate how racial ethnic groups corporate into primary and
secondary labour market. Labour system on family economy, slavery
and the reservation contribute to the variation in the women ethnic
groups across racial ethnic groups. The economic position of women
explained by UNDP through women’s economic empowerment. Women are
the main unpaid care and domestic workers than men. There are
several structural barriers in the economy which denied women from
socioeconomic rights, restrict their economic, social and political
opportunities. Ensuring equal right to property, credit, land ad
natural resources; decent work and equal access to basic services
tried to reduce the gender discrimination. Inclusive and Equitable
Local Development Programme (IELD) by UN focus on the empowerment
of women with local government programme to unlock private finance
for infrastructure projects which make benefit for women and also
lift disproportionate burden on unpaid work.
Race, class and ethnicity have a huge impact on the economic
position of women. Based on race the society determines whether the
women are superior or inferior. Even if superior women also face
several inequalities from their home only. Ethnicity is the shared
culture, practices or values among the people. There is an unfair
payment for women can be seen in present situation also. The class
structure also make the situation worse and high impact fir the
worsening situation of the women. There is inequality can be seen
in every perspective of the society and also made the situation
more unethical.
