Health information management (HIM) is information management applied to health and health care. It is the practice of acquiring, analyzing and protecting digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care. With the widespread computerization of health records, traditional (paper-based) records are being replaced with electronic health records (EHRs). The tools of health informatics and health information technology are continually improving to bring greater efficiency to information management in the health care sector. Both hospital information systems and Human Resource for Health Information System (HRHIS) are common implementations of HIM.

With the advances in modern communication ,traditional systems for the management of health information management has become obsolete. The world has become a global village in this internet era. Let's take an example from the history itself. Spanish flu outbreak immediately after the first world war,had estimated mortality of 50-100 million. Along with many other health facilities which were lacking at that period included the modern health information management. The health sector took a while to recognise the pattern of the pandemic. The news was confined to few places till it became a pandemic.

100 years later with the Corona pandemic humans have an upper hand over the disease , health information management is one of the things that contributed to such an advantage.

Electronic health recordsEdit

The electronic health record has been continually expressed as an evolvement of health record-keeping. Because it is electronic, this means of record keeping has been both supported and debated in the health professional community and within the public realm.

Disadvantage of a traditional health information management

1.unlike the modern HIM it doesn't provide the easy access Opportunity to reasearches and follow ups

2. Doesn't allow easy communication between two health agencies unlike the modern HIM

3. Chances of losing data with time is high compared to moderns setting.

4. It's more time consuming and more

human efforts are required

5. Data can't be retrieved by any other means
