-Health information management (HIM) is the practice of acquiring, analyzing, and protecting digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care. It is a combination of business, science, and information technology.
- The HIM professional must have a wide range of knowledge, including HIPAA laws that protect patient privacy, data analysis and how to harness computer systems that collect data.
-The main concepts of HIM is to protect the privacy of patient, maintain standards and integrity, to be available for everyone and collect data
-But now,HIM is moving away from these concepts.
-Being expensive -to reach everyone the technology must become more sophisticated and that does costs a lot
-Overdependency on technology -with technical errors in computer systems there is rise in medical errors too. This will cause huge inconveniences, or worse; it may even have adverse effects in the patient’s health condition.
-Requires time to adapt, health informatiln should be always uptodate to avoid inconvenience and to maintain standards
-lack of privacy-with lots of information being stored in softwares, there is increased chances of hacking and vulnerability of HIM
-lack of crucial law and regulations,
-macropolicies,irresponsibilities of some HIM professionals
