A client is to receive 10 milliUnits per minute of oxytocin IV infusion via a pump. If the order states: oxytocin 30 Units mixed in 500 mL Lactated Ringers, at how many milliliters per hour should the infusion run? Inlcude a label with your answer.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Using the formula, D/H x Q

D=desired dose of drug=10milliunits

H=dose of drug in hand=30unit=30, 000milliunits

Q=total volume of fluid=500ml

D/H×Q=10milliunit/30000milliunit×500ml

Ml =0.166667

Multiply by 60 minutes

=0.166667×60

=10ml/hour

Ie 30 units of oxytocin in 500ml can infuse 10ml /hr.
