For example, what services are available to a veteran who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and alcohol abuse? 1. Using nursing evidence, Clearly and thoroughly describe factors outside of military service that influence the veteran’s need for mental health services.
2. Clearly identify how veterans are evaluated to determine eligibility for services and examine the cost of services to those receiving it.
3. Using nursing evidence, Describe adequacy of available services for the population served.
4. Clearly identify how services can be improved to better serve veterans. provide two specific recommendations.
1) mental health disparities are often a leading factor to the high suicide rates among veterans who experience depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Because Veterans, especially those who served in combat, have generally experienced more stress and trauma in their lives than non-Veterans, the team had expected to see higher rates of depression among Veterans. improve the health and well—being of our veterans who have served this nation, requires a collaboration between public and non—profit mental health providers at the State and local levels. It is imperative that we increase the availability of crisis intervention and mental health services for all veterans that have served this nation.Their efforts to gain access to quality psychological health services after multiple deployments are often met significant obstacles.
2) Veterans must apply for VA health careservices, and then the VA reviews the application and makes a determination oneligibility for enrollment. ... After 5 years, theseveterans are assigned to a priority group based on their income and degree of disability due to their service-related condition at that time.
3) Veterans usually receive care within 14 days of their desired appointment date, but wait times vary considerably across VA facilities. VA has long played a national leadership role in measuring the quality of health care. The nurses, dr., and other manpower were developed to provide care to the veteran Caring for veterans means you are caring for their families. Well-rounded health care is critical as they are reacquainted to civilian life
4) there are 5 ways to improve services to veteran,
Provide access ,educate, impactfull, deliver value , spread awareness
Deliver value= The needs of veterans, active military and their families are unique. Veterans battle homelessness, mental health issues and service-related diseases such as PTSD. Take the time to know these individuals. Ask questions about their service: what branch they were in, how long and where they served. If a veteran employee is available to assist, ask the individual if they feel more comfortable speaking with a fellow veteran. By learning who they are, you will improve outcomes
Spread awareness = Health care organizations are already entrenched in the community. Announce programs and services to various community leaders and veterans groups.
