Qn:· What factors (outside of military service) influence the veterans need for mental health services? (Use evidence to support your rationale.)

Answer:

The three most common mental health concerns for veterans are Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Veterans experience mental health disorders, substance use disorders, post-traumatic stress, and traumatic brain injury at disproportionate rates compared to their civilian counterparts. The findings suggest that mental health disparities are often a leading factor to the high suicide rates among veterans who experience depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Consequently, an increasing number of veterans are homeless, experiencing substance abuse problems and gambling addictions, which often lead to suicide attempts and even death.

Hence the veterans needs adequate counselling and mental health services for their better health.

Qn: · How is the veteran evaluated to determine eligibility for services?

Answer

The services range from peer support with other Veterans to counseling, therapy, medication, or a combination of these options.

Its goal is to help the veterans in taking charge of their treatment and live a full and meaningful life.

  • Veterans firstly must apply for veterans affair (VA) health care services
  • The VA reviews the application and makes a determination on eligibility for enrollment.
  • After 5 years, these veterans are assigned to a priority group based on their income and degree of disability due to their service-related condition at that time.

Qn: What is the cost of these services to those veterans receiving it?

Answer
Veterans can get free VA health care for any illness or injury that is related to your military service. They also provide certain other services for free.

Some Veterans may be required to pay a copay for treatment of their nonservice-connection conditions. While some Veterans qualify for free health care based on certain eligibilities.

Most Veterans will be required to complete a financial assessment at the time of enrollment to determine whether they are eligible for enrollment and for free health care services.

If the Veteran's gross household (including spouse and dependents, if applicable) income exceeds the VA income limits, the Veteran may be required to pay a copay for health care services.

Qn: Are the available services in your community adequate for the population served? Explain your answer.

Answer

After coming home from war, many soldiers face physical, mental, and social issues that make them a vulnerable population.

So there is necessity in the availability of services for veterans. Our community provides adequate services for veterans.

Some veterans face multiple barriers to VA mental healthcare service use. However, there is limited understanding of how veterans experiences and meaning, the systems shape their perceptions of barriers to VA mental health service use. The government is trying to give better services by reducing this barriers.

Qn:What recommendations do you have for improving the available services? (Are more services needed? Are different services needed? How would additional funding help?)

Answer:

The further enhancement of health services to veterans will improve their quality of life. The recommendations are

  • Establish a 30 day exist period once they are discharged to offer the each veteran, job counseling, drug prevention education, housing support and marriage counseling;
  • Establish mental health and substance abuse treatment beds for inpatient drug treatment at each regional Veteran Medical Facility; and
  • Establish mobile crisis response teams in each regional Veteran Medical Facility.
  • Train the students for how to give care to the veterans. For that provide veteran simulations and case studies as part of undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
