Expert Solution

What are the major anterior and posterior arterial supplies for the brain? (where they arise from, what structures each of them serve).

Cerebral circulation occurs as there would b movement of blood via the cerebral artery networks. Arteries carry out the work of delivering oxygenated blood along with nutrients as well as glucose to the brain. The deoxygenated blood is carried back to the heart as it would be removing carbon dioxide as well as lactic acid. There are two major areas of supply of the brain, the middle cerebral artery and the anterior cerebral artery.

Main pair of arteries supplying blood to the brain are the

  • Internal carotid artery that would be supplying blood to the anterior brain. The internal carotid artery is present on both side of the neck as well as head. These would be arising from the source in the firm of the common carotid arteries as these would be bifurcating into the internal as well as external carotid artery.
  • Vertebral arteries would be supplying blood to the posterior brain as well as the brain stem. These are some of the major neck arteries. These would be originating through the subclavian arteries. These would be present on both side of neck, and would be coming in inside the skull so as to form the basilar artery. This supplies to the brwinstem, the posterior brain part as well as the spinal cord and cerebellum.
