answers

There are 12 pairs of cranial nderves araises from brain and brainstem. some of them are pure sensory , some are motor , some are mixed nerves

first cranial nerve - olfactory - it is related to smell .sensory nerve ,  it orginates on caudal surfuce of olfactory bulb and cross the cribriform plate of ethmoid bones and reaches olfactory regions of nasal cavity

2 nd cranial nerve - opticnerve - related to vision . sensory nerve , araise from optic disc in eyes and relays visual stimuli to the brain.

3rd nerve - oculomotor nerve. motor and parasympathetic supply to some structures in the orbit. araises from oculomotor nucleus located within the anterior aspects of midbrainof brainstem, ventral to cerebral aqueduct.

4 th nerve - trochlear nerve . smallest cranial nerves with longest intracranial course. motor function. araises from trochlear nucleus situated within the posterior aspect of midbrain. it is the only nerve araise from posterior aspects of midbrain

5th cranial nerve - trigeminal nerve. largest cranial nerve . has sensory , motor , parasympathetic function. araises from three sensory nuclei (mesencephalic, principal sensory , spinal nucleus of trigeminal ) and one motor nucleus (motor nucleus of trigeminal nerve) extending from midbrain to medulla

6 th cranial nerve- abducens nerve - has motor function to extra ocular muscles . araises from abduscents nucleus in pons of brainstem. exits the brain at pontomedullar junction

7 th cranial nerve - facial nerve .has sensory , motor , special sensory , parasympathetic function. araises from pons region of brainstem, it has 2 roots motor and sensory roots .

8 th nerve - vestibulocochlear nerve - has sensory function . vestibular component araises from vestibuli complex nuclei in pons and medulla . cochlear components araises from ventral and dorsal cochlear nuclei situated in inferior cerebellar peduncle. nerves exists from cerebellopontine angle

9 th nerve - glossopharyngeal nerve . it has sensory , special sensory , motor , parasympathetic functions ,. . araises from anterior aspects of medulla , moving laterally in posterior cranial fosa and leaves cranium through jugular foramen,

10 th nerve-vagus nerve . has sensory , special sensory , motor , parasympathetic functions . has longest course . orgin from medulla of brainstem. exits through jugular foramen

11 th nerve - accessory nerve - motor function. spinal portion araises from neurons of upper cervical cord mainly c1 to c5, c6. cranial part is smaller and araises from lateral aspects of medulla . leaves cranium via jugular foramen

12 th nerve -hypoglossal nerve , motor function. araises fromhypoglossal nucleus in medulla of brainstem.exists the brain via hypoglossal canal.
