The use of social media such as Facebook creates a social pressure to depict a picture perfect life on social media as Facebook.
Studies have shown that people who spend a lot of time on social media tend to have lower self-esteem as compared to those who don't spend as much time. Facebook has become a platform where a person only shows or even enhances the positive aspects of their life. As a result, for a person who goes through one's profile, they believe that the person has a picture perfect life and compare that to their own which as expected would have their fair share of ups and downs. People have started assessing their lives on the number of likes they get for a picture and have a constant need to post about their lives. They have become dependent on external assessment of their lives that they fall short of life satisfaction. It is a dangerous terrain to thread on as people have gone to the extent of attempting suicide because they feel their life is worthless compared to others. Thus, the use of social media such as Facebook creates a social pressure to depict a picture perfect life.
