Human existence is marked by having an interpersonal interaction with friends, peers, family members and society at large. This interpersonal communication gives a sense of satisfaction, love, happiness and a human touch along with the warmth of being in contact with significant others. The sharing of information through face to face direct contact is always appreciated as this not only involves a human touch but also helps the individual understand the micro-expressions of the person with whom he/she is communicating with. This sharing and loss of personal touch is experienced when one wants to communicate through virtual world. Although the sharing of one’s life experiences is alos done through social media yet a number of aspects get a miss when the person is communicating through social media.

Being on social networking sites for longer durations is harmful to the psyche of the individual. The person is first of all exposed to harmful radiations being emitted by the gadgets. This may increase the irritability and anxiety of the person. There are other negative implications as well. The person feels cutoff from the real world. The person who is too much on social networking may perceive a lack of social support in real day-to-day life. The researches indicate that there will be an increase in cutoff from the real world and the person may eventually feel depressed.

Overall, it may be concluded that there are many harmful effects of being on social networking sites for longer durations of time.
