Explain how using social media such as Facebook promotes the creation of a false self that is far away from the true identity of a person.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Facebook users can make a whole new identity on facebook - giving fake information about their identity, likes, dislikes, opinions, education, professonal experiences, staus etc. A person can hold more than one facebook account and create a completely new one/multiple identity in the virtual world. Even if the person does not hold a fake or multiple account, he/she can portrait a completly different picture of his life for example - even if a person is suffering from an abusive relationship, he/she post pictures of them together posing happy in a fancy dining restraunt just to enhance themselves in eyes of others, which might be exactly opposite of what he/she is going through at present. Such user conceal themselves under fake emotions and displays an all positive self-image. In this case the user is diverging from true self and and manifesting a false-self he/she has created through facebook.
