Do you agree with the authors' statement that "going to work is primarily extrinsically motivated"? Do you think it is possible to be both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated to do one's job? Fully explain your position.
Most of the people go to work to earn money, money that satisfies life's need. Money is an extrinsic motivation because it's not providing a person with internal satisfaction or enjoyment, but is a form of reward. The other extrinsic motivation factor is achieving higher positions at work place or promotions. Also achieving the best worker award gains popularity at work place. These are all extrinsic motivation factors that motivates a person by rewarding for his/ her efforts because these rewards are not internally driven.
But when a person has set clear goals, has conducive environment at work place and the person finds enjoyment and satisfaction in his/her work is intrinsic motivation. Then it is not a mechanical routine that is followed in pursuing certain rewards but for an internal satisfaction and joy.
External motivation provides tangible rewards whereas, internal motivation gives intangible rewards that are abstract.
