Coding system in healthcare system is used for the various description of diseases, diagnosis, treatments, medical procedures, etc from physicians and other healthcare providers and the transforms them into numeric or alphanumeric codes for the correct description of diagnosis and treatment procedures performed. The main function of coding systems in healthcare system is to record all medical procedures and activities and perform the smooth delivery of medical payments.

CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) is a coding system designed by the Americal Medical Association. It is mainly used to describe various procedures performing in medical, surgical, and diagnostic services. It is also used for better communication among physicians, medical coders, patients, organizations, and payment delivery for various medical procedures.

The ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases ) is a coding system used by physicians and other healthcare providers to classify and code medical diagnosis, signs and symptoms, and various medical and surgical procedures. ICD codes are alphanumeric codes connection with CPT codes to record services designed by healthcare provider to patient. This record is accurately documented in the medical records and reported for the accounting and payment process.

HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding Systems is a set of healthcare procedure codes based on CPT. HCPCS level II is mainly used to identify products, supplies, and services that are not included in the CPT codes.  These includes ambulance services, durable medical equipment, prosthetics, and certain drugs and medicines. HCPCS code system is also used for outpatient care, medical insurances, etc.
