HCPS- Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System Level II codes is a standardised coding system for hospitals, physicians, and other health professionals.
Types-
A codes for ambulance services and other medical and surgical supplies.
C codes- identifying products and services qualified for the payments.
G codes - identifying healthcare procedures and services.
J codes
Q codes - identify services such as drugs, biologicals and other medical equipment and services.
Level II HCPCS codes used for -
1. Health insurance and other related programs, used for ensuring the claims are orderly and efficiently processed.
2. Describing and identifying health care equipments and supplies and
3. used for biling purposes.
The use of Level II HCPCS codes was started in 1980s. These codes consist of a single alphabetical letter followed by 4 numeric digits. These are
1. Parmanent national codes - used by private and public health insurers. The codes providep efficient processing of claim
2. Dental codes - codes for biling for dental procedures and dental services.
3. Miscellaneous codes - used during the period of time when new code request has been placed.
4, temporary National codes - codes that are independent of parmanent national codes. Its types are C codes, G codes, Q codes, K codes, S codes, H codes and T codes.
