Mental health consequences
Due to the COVID 19, most of the economies in the world are running in to recession. Recession has forced many businesses to either shut down temporarily or permanently. This has resulted in Unemployment, layoff, salary cut or non payment of salary.
The economic consequences on the life of people has caused stress, anxiety and depression among people. Before COVID 19, people were engaged in physical work or physical or mental work. People used to get togather. But covid 19 has locked people in homes. They are not able to work. They cannot meet their friends and families. This has caused mental stress and trauma. In the past few months we have witnessed growing number of suicide cases and domestic violence .
COVID 19 has effected many people's life usual activities, routines or livelihoods- levels of loneliness, depression, Increased use of alcohol and drugs, self harm and suicidal behaviour.
Studies have found that health care workers found increased depression/ depressive symptoms, anxiety, psychological distress and poor sleep quality.
Other consequences of COVID 19
Other consequences of covid 19 includes increased burden of Government budget, low GDP growth, low level of income, unemployment, hunger, low nutrition level, domestic violence, Child abuse, pressure on health infrastructure and so on.
Why is it important to consider these mental health consequences?
Mental health is important at every stage of life from childhood to adult age. Poor mental health among children's effect their learning process and growth process. Poor mental health cause malnutrition among children's because of loss of appetite.
Poor mental health affect labour productivity and may cause increase labour turnover and absenteeism. Person who is mentally ill contribute less to the productivity. His efficiency decreases. If a child is mentally disturbed, he cannot focus on his studies. Poor mental health affect our relationship with our family , friends and colleagues.

The need of the hour is to take care of our both physical and mental health. Both physical and mental are necessary for performing our daily activities. Poor mental health not only effect our relationship and social life but also disrupt our eocnomic life. We cannot focus on work, our efficiency decreases and many more. In order to ensure good mental health , it is important we should involve balanced and healthy diet along with yoga, mediation and or excercise in our routine life. In case of depression we should find people to discuss our problems.
