200 words or more explanation
Social competence is an ever-changing system, which consists of social motifs and social abilities and has the function to organise social behaviour, and to trigger the operation of theindividual elements of the system.
Basically it means ablility to organize ones social behaviour
Emotional regulation means ability to regulate ones emotions in reponse to the environment. Emotional regulation is very important to attaining social competence and successful peer relationships.
Example : if a child looses temper (not able to regulate ones emotions) when his freind doesnt do what he wants would lead to his friend not talking to him again( child fails in a peer relationship and loses social competence).
If however the child conveys that he is upset while trying to understand his freinds point of view, he is able to regulate his emotions and maintain social competence.
To have good emotional regulation it is necessary for the person to have good peer group as then the person will be able to understand others better and able to empathize them better without hurting ones own intentions and feelings. Thus both social competence and emotional regulation go hand in hand.
