Emotional Intelligence(EQ) is the ability of a person to understand and manage his/her emotions in a way to relieve stress and communicate effectively. At the same time, emotional intelligence also means the ability to control emotions of others.

Emotional intelligence plays a great role in different aspects of your life, like it impacts your way of behaviour and the way of interaction with others.

Key Attributes of Emotional Intelligence :

1) Self-awareness: It means you are aware of your own emotions. You should know how your emotions affect your thoughts and way of behaviour.

2) Self-management: The term self-management means you are able to manage your own behaviours & emotions. If you have emotional intelligence then you can manage yourself.

3) Social awareness: Social awareness means understanding the feelings & emotions of others and finding solutions to their problems. For this emotional intelligence skill is necessary.

Emotional intelligence is important because of the following reasons:

We know emotional intelligence is as important as intellectual intelligence(IQ), because as we know there are some people who don't know how to behave others, how to understand the feelings and emotions of others. Their social relationship is very bad. Both intellectual & emotional intelligence are important because IQ helps you to get into the company but EQ helps you to manage stress & emotions, which is highly essential in workplace.

Emotional intelligence can put impact on our life in four ways:

1) Performance at work: There are many complexities or problems in the workplace. To challenge the complexities in workplace an employee should have emotional intelligence which will help him to solve the problems. Nowadays many companies take emotional intelligence as an important skill which must be possessed by the candidate.

2) Physical & Mental Health : In today's competitive world it is necessary to control stress.If anybody is unable to manage his/her stress levels, it can cause serious health problems like high blood pressure, heart attack, weak immune system & so on. So the most important step in workplace is to learn how to get rid of stress.

Due to stress mental health is also affected. If you are unable to control your emotions and stress then it will cause depression, anxiety & mood swings. On the other hand if you have emotional intelligence , you can control your emotions more effectively.

3) Relationships: You can maintain a healthy relationship by controlling your emotions and feelings, also the emotions of others. This enables you to communicate effectively.

The importance of emotional intelligence can be well read from the above points. So it can be concluded that emotional intelligence is a very highly essential attribute that allows a person to control his/her emotions and that of others to maintain a healthy relationship in workplace.
