Age group - Toddlers, ages 1 to 3 years

RN assessment for no matter any children is unique. Remember children are not little adults so care and assessment are way too different from adults.

Assessment for this age group includes mainly:

Prenatal and birth history- Gestation, drug abuse, maternal factors like infection.

Developmental history- milestones, behaviour.

Social history of family - environment risk- abuse, addiction.

Immunization history. Vaccinations obtained.

Health promotion focuses:

1.Provide safe environment as they are very restless , curious and impulsive which can pose a risk for their safety.

2.Provide protection against infection as they are prone to get gastrointestinal and respiratory infection.

3.Ensure steps taken to promote toilet training. Its a major development task.

4.Use play to support and comfort them during assessment and care as regression and temper tantrums are very common.

5.Provide rest and comfort. Daily sleep for about 10 -12 hours is recommended ,day time naps can be encouraged.

6. Maintain adequate nutritional status .They require adequate nutrients to meet their excessive energy consumption and growth.

7.Provide adequate support to the child's parents.
