What are the karyotype abbreviations for someone with Turner syndrome and Klinefelter syndrome? What gametes would need to unite to form these combinations? How did these gametes arise?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Turner syndrome karyotype=44+XO or (46,XO)

Cause of turner syndrome :turner syndrome is result due to union of an abnormal( 22+O) egg with a normal (22+X) sperm or a normal (22+X) egg and abnormal (22+O) sperm.

In short, turner syndrome is monosomy of X chromosome which arises due to fusion of an abnormal(22+0) gamete with normal (22+X) gamete.

Klinfeltor syndrome karyotype=44+XXY or (47,XXY)

Cause of klinfeltor syndrome:this genotype results due to fusion of a non disjunct XX egg and a normal Y sperm or normal X egg and abnormal XY sperm.

The abnormal gametes arise either due to non disjunction of homologous  sex chromosome during meiosis I or non disjunction of sister chromatids in sex chromosome during meiosis II.
