Condition : . Turner Syndrome (45, XO) in XO individual (compare with typical XX)
1.a) compare what type of external genitals develop in the condition you chose versus typical development of individual with the same genotype (sex chromosomes):
1.b) compare what type of secondary sexual characteristics develop in the condition you chose versus typical development of individual with the same genotype (sex chromosomes):
1. a.) The external genital organs
include the mons pubis, labia majora, labia
minora, Bartholin glands, and clitoris. The area containing these
organs is called the vulva.
Turner syndrome is chromosomal abnormality in which one X
chromosome is absent ( 45 XO ) .Normal females have ( 46 XX)
genotype .
As Y chromosome is not present so Tetsis doesnt develop
But 2 X chromsome are required for Ovaries it is also no fully
developed .
So streak gonads are present in Turner syndrome .
Now external genitalia development is not dependent upon estrogen
relaesed from ovary so external genitalia is same and fully
developed and as like normal females .
2b) But as Ovarian dysgensesis is there so gonadal
failure will occur and then pateint due to lack of estrogen will
not be able to develop secondary sexual charcteristics like Breast
emalrgement
Poor breast development
Streak ovaries
Underdevelpoed gonads , No mensturation
All this occur because of homrone not produced by Ovaries like
estrogen .
Other features of Turner
Low hair line
Wide spaced nipple
Short stature
Shield shaped chest
Shortened metacarpal etc
