1. Write a 2 page report about the types of anemias
which can be seen as a result of vitamin and mineral deficiencies
.
a. Add mechanisms and explain how deficiency of these
micronutrients leads to anemia
b. Explain who are under risk
c. Explain how these anemias can be prevented and
treated
At least 5 articles or book sources should be used in
the report
REFERENCES SHOULD BE WRITTEN !
Anemia is a codition in which blood doesnot have enough healthy red blood cells. It leads to lack of oxgen and RBC Nutritional anemia is caused by lack of iron, protein vitamin B-12 and other vitamins needed for formation of haemoglobin.Folic acid deficiency is common assossiation of nutritional anemia and iron deficiency anemia is most common nutritional disorder ,Symptoms are lack of energy and fatigue. .Vitamin defeciecy anemia is also known as megaloblastic anemia .It can cause RBC to become too large or body to produce too few of them.It can develop when too little folite or vitamin B-12 in a person's diet.common symptoms include mouth ulcers, depression, visual disturbances, muscle weakness.long term coplications lad to infertility, congenital disorders etc.
a)Inadequate access to food and nutrients can lead to anemia , patients with certain health satus and medical condition are also at increasing risk of deveeloping nutritional anemia.Iron, cobalamin and folate are micro nutrients that are vital for generation of erythrocytes.Iron deficiency is associated with insufficient production of haemoglobin.Deficiamcy of foliate lead to impaired synthesis of deoxyribonucleic acid, proteins and cell division.Status of copper and zinc in our body also affect iron absorption and utilisation.due to increasing number of patients undergoing bariatricsurgical procedures, more cases with copper and zinc defeciencies also emerged..
b)Young children, pregnent women women of child bearing years, people with illness and surgery related bleeding complications, malnourished people from developing nations are under risk.Age ,gender, geography and health status are important risk factors.
C)Make dietery changes in required manner .if that do not improve a persons anemia ,use suppliments suggested by doctors.A person with seviere defeciency should be given nutrients intravenously.in severe cases ,blood transfusion is necessary.for defienciency of:
IRON: use orange juice
VITAMIN B-12 :provide monthly injection
FOLATE: provide folic acid suppliments for4 months
