The most common joint injuries are dislocations naf subluxation
Dislocation: a joint is dislocated when the articular surface are completely displaced one from the other
Subluxation: a joint is subluxated when it's articular surfaces are only party displaced
CLASSIFICATION
.Traumatic dislocation
. Pathological dislocation
DIAGNOSIS
Clinical examination
Clinical features-
. Pain
. Deformity
. Shortening of limb
. Telescopy
RADIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION
. Xray
. Ct scan
COMPLICATIONS
. Recurrence, myositis ossificans, instability, stiffness, osteoarthritis, avascular necrosis
TREATMENT
. Conservative methods
.Operative methods
CRYSTAL INDUCED ARTHROPATHY
. Disturbed purine metabolism leading to excessive accumulation of uric acid in the blood, can be an inherited disorder or due to impaired excretion of uric acid by he kidneys. The result is a accumulation of sodium biurate crystals in some soft tissues. Tissues of predilection are cartilage, tendon, bursa
Patient usually beyond 40yrs present as
1. Arthritis- metatarsophalangeal joint of big toe being a favourite site, onset of pain is acute, pain is severe
2. Buraitis- commonly of the olecranon bursa
3.Tophi formation deposit of uric acid salt in the soft tissue
Confirmation of diagnosis
Urate crystals in the aspirate from a joint or bursa, high serum uric acid levels
Treatment
NSAIDS,Uricosuric drugs, uric acid inhibitors
