In the immediate aftermath of World War 2 tension between the USA and USSR heightened. There was now a new world order withe emergence of these superpowers mirrored by the decline of Europan empires. An example relevant to this question would be French Indo China.

There are many factors involved. Vacuums opened up as European powers could not hold onto territories. In Asia the early victories of the Japanese over colonial powers encouraged indigenous peoples to fight for their independence.
