The topic identifief is cable configuration using MDF, IDF, HCC
and VCC.
These are the main units to build a network setup.
MDF : Main Distribution Frame - This is the point where the
Internet service provider's (Fibre optic cable) reached the
building site which is in turn distributed internally. Hence its
the Main Distribution frame
IDF : Internal Distribution Frame - This is the subset of MDF where there is a require of network in a network. Usually to divide the areas multiple IDF is used from single MDF to maximise the network. It's the point where each area gets the main cable from the MDF.
VCC - Vertical Cross Connect - These are the patch panels which connects the MDF to IDF in the same locality. There are the backbone cables which reaches the each area.
HCC - Horizontal Cross Connect - There are the patch panels
which mark the connection to the IDF and end device/workstation
port. They are usually in clusters and individial to a
device.
