How would you solve the problem of malnutrition using science (not pseudoscience) and technology?
Science is already solving world hunger. Just recently scientists won the World Food Prize for their work on creating the biofortified sweet potato. This is helping to combat world hunger by making food able to be planted and prosper where it usually isn’t able to due to nutrient lacking soil or droughts, as well as building up nutrients in foods to help people who don’t have access to these nutrients normally.
The vast majority of people suffering from World Hunger live in developing countries where it is hard to grow crops due to varying climatic conditions and harsh soil so this sweet potato is an awesome solution to combat these issues. The potato counters the devastating effects of Vitamin A deficiency which contributes to high rates of blindness, diarrhea, immune system disorders and premature death in children and pregnant women.
Over 10 million people have been positively impacted by these biofortified crops with the potential of several hundred million more having their health and nutrition enhanced in the coming decades.
Further scientific developments like this will continue to help people suffering from malnourishment and help combat world hunger further.
