Evaluation is a process in intervention or program which marks the final stage of the program and pave way for further improvements. Through evaluation one can anlayse if the care provided is of high quality or cost effective. In order to measure this quality of performance various guidelines, criterias and standards are developed. The guidelines provide recommendation for actions based on best available evidence which encourages provision of optimal care. The presence or absence of criteria can be used to test the achievement of the aspect of clinical care. The standards are used for assessment of a practice or a practioners overall performance.
It is the primary goal of every treatment modality to provide high quality care and services. MOreover these services sholud be cost effective too. If the patient care quality is good but is very expensive then it will be difficult for the patients to access the health care services. Therefore care in every treatment should be planned to improve the quality of care and should be cost effective. The patients who show positive outcomes and improvement in their disease course are the markers for good quality performance. Those who receive high quality cost effective care, will have a better prognosis. The quality performance is said to be of good quality and cost effective when it meets all the criteria, standards and follows all guidelines. If the goals remain unmet them it indicates that there is need for further improvements. Therefore the quality performance indicators helps to evaluate if the care in the treatment rendered is of high quality and cost effective.
