Answer- Yahoo is a provider of web services and it is ownedj by verizon communications. It was founded in January 1994 and has been operating since then. For a company to operate for such a long period it has to focus on it’s core competencies to excel in the market. Core competencies are those activities that make the firm stand out among other firms and gives it a competitive edge.

Following are the core competencies of yahoo that it follows:

• It has a very strong market position which yahoo has maintained over the years. It also offers a lot of products and services that attract many users or consumers.

• Yahoo being one of the finest MNC’s has appropriately staffed it’s organisation with the right and skilled people that help achieving the company’s objectives.

• Yahoo is moving into mobile technologies that make it more attractive and changing with the environment. It is an aggressive firm and thus moves with the changing environment. Yahoo also has low cost updation of it’s applications and thus it is helpful for the users.

• If we look into the BCG growth matrix then yahoo is the cash cow. It offers mail services that too very efficiently and effectively than it’s competitors. It also offers some community sites thus help the users in many ways.

• Yahoo uses a strong and very powerful technology that helps it’s users in faster browsing and gives a beautiful experience of yahoo.

• Yahoo has a very strong management team which has helped it in reaching such a stage. It comes up new new ideas and thus caters to the fast changing world.
