Which of the following are ways that cells store energy? Check all that apply.

Group of answer choices

in light

NADH

ATP

Ion gradient or proton motor force

Solutions

Expert Solution

ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is the major molecule that stores energy. Energy is stored in the second and third phosphate bonds. Breaking these bonds will result in the release of the energy. Addition of a phosphate group into adenosine diphosphate forms adenosine triphosphate which stores the energy & the removal of the phosphate group will release the energy.

Energy is necessary to generate a gradient. Hence, gradient is a kind of stored (potential) energy. NADH is a high energy molecule (releases a lot of energy when the bond is broken) which is equal to 3 ATP.

hope it helps.
