Which of the following are ways dinoflagellates can get energy? Select all that apply.
Select one or more:
a. Lecithotrophy
b. Penducle feeding
c. Photosynthesis
d. Pallium feeding
e. Phagotrophy
f. Nematocysts
Dinoflagellates are single celled flagellate eukaryotes with both plant and animal characteristics.
Dinoflagellates gets their energy by following ways,
Photosynthesis, Pallium feeding and Phagotropy.
Photosysnthesis is the major nutrient intake process in most Dinoflagellates though some are mixotropic where they get their energy by combining phagotropy with photosynthesis. Some species like Protoperidinium and Zygabikodinium uses a mechanism called pallium-feeding where they use pallium pseudopod to digest the prey for energy.
Hence the answers are c). Photosysnthesis d). Pallium-feeding and e). Phagotropy
