Which of the following contain a coordinate covalent bond?
Check all that apply.
Check all that apply.
H3O+H3O+ |
H2OH2O |
BF−4 |
Answer : H3O+ and BF4- both contain the co-ordinator covalent bond while H2O does not contain coordinate covalent Bond.
explanation:
we first know what makes a compound to be said that it contains coordinate covalent bond ,the answer is , if in a compound or molecule, a bond is formed by a shared pair of electrons with both electrons coming from the same atom ,it is said. The molecule contains a coordinate covalent bond. Now , we shall see this in given examples.
1. H3O+ : in the formation of this hydronium ion, oxygen in H2O have 2 lone pair and the other protons accept one electron from oxygen and get formed hydronium ion , thus ,it is said it contains coordinate covalent bond.
2.H2O: in h2O , all of the bonds are shared by corresponding atoms thus they contains only covalent bond.
3. BF4- : It is formed when BF3 abstract one more florine atom and gets negative charge ,thus by donating the electron to florine atom. It makes co-ordinate covalent bond.
