Social media and Human trafficking in Health care:

Human trafficking is a criminal activity in which people are recruited , harboured , transported, brought or kidnapped to serve an exploitative purpose such as sexual slavery, forced labor or child soldiery. Social media refers to interactive forms of media that allow users to interact with and publish to each other, by the means of internet. Social media helps the growth of human trafficking as well as the control of this evil. Awareness on human trafficking can be made through social media with a large coverage and it will be helpful for healthcare also.

Human trafficking got into new ways of finding and exploiting the victims through social media . Through social media one can market , advertise and sell anything including humans. Human traffickers are finding novel ways for canvassing people especially adolescent children and young adults through social media. In developing countries many girls and women are getting cheated and trafficked by criminals by acting a false identity in front of the victims and these girls or women leave the home and everything by believing these frauds and get cheated.

Traffickers used to  threaten the survivors by showing their private videos and forcing them to act as a sex slave for them, otherwise they may post the clip in social media. Trafficker's advertisement regarding ' job in foreign countries or states may attract the youth and they may get cheated. Human traffickers use the social media as a good plattform for their business.

Healthcare professionals can use the Social media as an effective tool against Human trafficking.  Reports show that half of victims of trafficking can get exposed to health care in any of the stage and Healthcare professional may be the first professional come in contact witj them, especially women and children. Healthcare professional has to have the ability to identify the signs and symptoms of trafficking. They have to play a major role in creating awareness among the public by using social media apps.

Social media even helps the survivors to connect with the outside world and police. Use the hashtag such as #End human trafficking, # stop child labour, # End sexual abuse..etc.

(My) Telehealth effort:

Telehealth is the distribution of information and services related to health through electronic media. Sharing of post , contains the signs of human trafficking/ signs of abuse, Steps on how to come out of a trafficker etc through different social media. Sharing helpline numbers for the victims/ survivors to contact the authorities.etc. Sharing small videos for public and other Health workers on how to identify a trafficker or the survivor can be posted in the socia media plattform.

Resources: A healthcare worker need a smartphone, laptop or a desk top with proper internet connection. She should also have connection with NGOs and Human rights/ welfare officers. Interpreters are needed when the people in the locality / survivor/ trafficker uses a different language.

A healthcare professional can document her activities against human trafficking. She can see how many viewers for the post or videos. From the feedback she is getting from the social media indicates the people 's response to the post. Even though she can't see the victim face to face some times, she can make use of phones or messages to interact with them.
