1. Human trafficking:

Human trafficking is a criminal activity in which people are recruited, transported or harboured , or bought or kidnapped to serve an exploitative purpose such as forced labour, sexual slavery or child soldiery.

Human trafficking also called as Modern slavery . The traffickers use coercion, force or fraud to tempt or attract the victims for the Labour or commercial or sexual exploitation .

2. It is important for the nurses to know and understand about the human trafficking as most of the victims may come in contact with the health care facilities like clinics or hospital for the treatment of psychosomatic disorders, injuries, aches , communicable diseases etc. Nurses often get chance to encounter with the Victims or abusers in the health care settings or in community.  

A nurse should know the different forms of Human trafficking, so that she can understand the victims easily and can report to the authority, talk with the Victims and counsell them , if there is a suspicion occurs. The major forms of Human trafficking are:

* Forced labour by retraining the identity papers, accumulated debts etc

* sexual exploitation : Prostitution, forced marriage, pornography etc

* Domestic servitude

* Forced criminality

* Organ harvesting

* Child Soldiery , children are used for military purpose or violence.

3. Strategies to implement:

* Create awareness among staff regarding Human trafficking or Modern slavery and it's different forms.

* Encourage each health professional to work against Human trafficking

* Teach them how to identify the victim , abuser and the signs of abuse.

* Campaigns against Human trafficking

* Posters against Human trafficking, helpline numbers can be published in online medias and  paste on the walls of Healthcare centers etc.

The nurse should handle the situation , and she should not be negligible in such cases or should not keep silence, even after understanding or sensing a form of Human trafficking.

*She has to openly talk with the Victims and encourage them to openly communicate.

* Assure the victims, that they will be safe even if they open everything to nurse and the exploitation they experience is not there fault, so anything can be done to get out of this slavery.

* Offer them the suggestions for legal assistance or helpline numbers etc.

* Report to the senior staff or unit in charge.

* Inform the Child helpline in case of a child abuse or child soldiery.

* Identify the signs of abuse through physical examination and document the incident.
