An effective performance management program ensures that individual and team objectives are consistent with organizational objectives such that success at the individual, team and organizational level is improved by successful implementation of human resource management practices
First, set goals which often have short-term objectives that are
challenging and meaningful.
Second, inform management in tracking performance about how to
provide employee performance input that is occurring in the context
of work, rather than outside the workplace.
Third, it is critical that managers build coaching skills so that
employees accept input and enhance performance
Finally, the writers also suggest that self-assessments be removed
and paperwork minimized. Nonetheless, it is probably better to have
self-assessment as this encourages workers to have a say, while
paperwork reduction is beneficial
Performance management is the method to define, assess, monitor and improve human resource efficiency within an organization. On the other hand , performance appriasal is the ongoing method of measuring employee performance.
There are all sorts of ways of thinking about the disparity between the two. Performance management is about what you are going to do to help an individual continue their growth and become ever better for your company in their results. Performance evaluation is how you measure the progress that is being made by consistently reviewing or assessing the actual performance of the employee over time.
Another way to think of the distinction between the two is that performance evaluation is in the past, meaning how the employee performed during the appraisal process during the immediate past time being checked. Meanwhile, success improvement is targeted to the present and the future. You are doing things in real time in the present to help ensure that the output of the employee meets the optimal level. You are also considering what can be accomplished with an eye on the future to further improve the skills of the employee for times to come.
