Briefly discuss the difference between training and development and how they can affect a performance appraisal. Must be 200 words
The difference is as follows:
TRAINING
1. Training is a learning process in which the employees of an organisation or a company get the opportunity to build their skils and knowledge required for the job.
2. It focusses on the present requirement of an employee. It is beneficial for the present job the employees are engaged in.
3. It is therefore short term in nature.
4. It is related to the job of an employee. So therefore it is job oriented. It can be further divided into 2 categories: on- the- job training and off - the - job training.
5. Here the employees are given motivation by their trainer.
6. Its basic objective is to improve the performance of the employees for their job.
DEVELOPMENT
1. Development is an educational process which is concerned with the overall growth of the employees of an organisation or a company.
2. It is important for the future of an employee. Therefore it focusses on the future growth of an employee.
3. It is therefore a long term in nature.
4. It is the carrier oriented process.
5. Here the employees are motivated themselves so as to improve and polish themselves for future growth.
6. Its objective is to prepare employees for the future challenges.
Training and development helps in the performance appraisal of the employees . As the both terms are equally important both for present and future growth. This help the employees to learn new things which enhance their skills and knowledge for their present job as well as future carrier. It polishes their competency skills so as to face the present and future challenges accordingly.
