Que: How does the death of George Floyd impact you as a nurse?
Answer:
Geoge Floyd was an African-American black man, killed by a white police officer as he found using counterfeit money at the grocery shop. He pleaded in front of a white police officer that he can't breathe but the officer continued to press his knee on George's neck showing no mercy.
This is the perfect example of the horrific effects of racism that nurses experienced daily while practicing in hospitals. Being a nurse, we treat all the patients regardless of their caste, religion, race, or any other status. It is so devastating to see such a horrible act leading to someone's death just because of racial discrimination. We served humans putting so much effort to save their lives and this officer just put him to death without thinking once. The way we perform our duties honestly without doing any discrimination and following every possible ethical code, we expect the same for the police to perform their duties honestly irrespective of racism.
Being a nurse, I would have demand justice for George Floyd and a stop to the unnecessary death of black men at the hands of those who should protect them.”
