ANA(American Nurses Association) code of ethics for nurses
provide ethical obligations and statement for the nursing
professions. it is an ethical practice for patient safety and
quality of care. It has many provisions for the nursing
profession.
ICN code of ethics is an international council of nurses (ICN) that
provides ethical obligations for nurses to promote health, prevent
illness and improve wellness and avoid suffering. It has four
principles for standards of ethical conduct, that is nurses and
people, nurses and practice, nurses and profession, nurses and
coworkers. It is the first international code of ethics for
nurses.
Both the codes shows the nurses are ethically proven, prevent
conflict and barrier with fulfilling a professional obligation.
These codes support nurse and reduce moral dilemmas.
ANA code of ethics important principles as respecting patient and
human dignity, justice in practice, respect patient autonomy,
respect compassion, and kindness, improve trust with the patient
and have communication with health care providers, awareness with
ethical guidelines, improvement in practical competence, respecting
patient privacy and maintaining confidentiality, honesty, loyalty
professional conscience, responsibility, and accountability,
etc.
ICN code of ethics focuses on general responsibility for nurses to
conserve life, alleviate suffering and promote health. emphasize
duty-based obligations, respecting human dignity without
discrimination. Technology innovation improves the code of ethics
more effectively and efficiently than before.
ANA and the ICN code of ethics have the main theme of compassionate
patient care and avoid patient suffering. Nurses for the patient to
self-determination and to protect moral space when providing
care.
ICN code of ethics is old ethics that developing a code of ethics
for nurses stated in 1899. ANA code of ethics adopted new
development for nurses with moral provisions for their work. ANA
provides a framework for nurses to practice with advanced ethics
consideration to handle ethical issues and conflicts that cause a
negative impact on the patient-nurse relationship and treat. ANA
code of ethics is better for nurse practice in 21century that
emphasize the needs for the patient as improving humanity, honesty,
courage, and wisdom for moral obligations followup to promote the
values and respect human being, it focuses on the wholeness of
character when holding nursing profession.
