Discuss the normal metabolism of macronutrients in the body (CHO, PRO, and FAT).
As the name suggest "macro" means large, the type of food that are needed in large amount in the diet is called macronutrient. There are mainly three types of macronutrients that is carbohydrates, proteins and fats. These nutrients provide energy to the body in the form of calories.
The metabolism is the process which is used in the breakdown of food and provide energy. Metabolism contains catabolism and anabolism.
Carbohydrates metabolism- The biochemical processes that is responsible for the formation, breakdown and interconversion of carbohydrates in living organisms. The most important carbohydrate is glucose. It begins from the mouth, where the enzyme salivary amylase starts to break down sugars into monosaccharides.
Protein metabolism- It contains different types of biochemical process that is used for the synthesis of proteins and amino acids and breakdown of protein by catabolism. Protein metabolism occurs in the liver. This process is also known as proteometabolism. The synthesis of protein include different types of steps like transcription, translation and post translation modifications.
Fat metabolism- The process that breaks down the ingested fats into fatty acids and glycerol and after that converts into simple compounds, it can be used by cells of the body.
