Retention and recruitment of nurses:-
Retention of nurses means the ability of an organization or a hospital to retain it's nursing employees. Retention is a important aspect for the organisation as well as for the nurses . Retention of nurses occurs when the environment provided by the organization makes them feel to work there. A unsatisfactory organizational environment and surrounding would make the staffs uneasy and they try to migrate from there. Retention of nurses have a direct effect on the healthcare system and the quality of care provided. The inability to retain the health care staffs is one of the world wide problem.
The causes of inability to retain nursing staff are:-
Heavy patient to nurse ratio.Double duties .Shortage of staffs.Unavailability of the provision of equipment and articles for patient care.Unsafe working environment.Decreased unit moral.
Unsuccessful retention of staffs leads to loss of experienced staff. Inability to provide a patient centered quality care to the patient . Increase workload on the present staffs which leads to burnouts.Patient care gets delayed. Patients are not satisfied by the care provided and it's costly. Sometimes ,leads to adverse patient effects due to improper care.
Recruitment of nurses means hiring the staff nurses in an organization when there is a vacancy available . Recruitment process involves putting an advertisement, release of application forms,conducting exam and interviews, shortlisting of candidates, selection of candidates,and analysis of documents. A sound recruitment system is needed by an organisation to carry out the process. Nurses recruitment occurs in all over world . These recruitments are done on the basis of the policies of organization. The recruitment can be on permanent and contract basis.
Recruiting of nurses in the present scenario of unsuccessful retention is very important . Recruitment will help to provide quality care to the patient's. The workload on the staffs will be decreased. The quality of care provided by the organization will improve and reduces the number of adverse patient effects. .Patient are satisfied by the care they receive. There is no delay on the provision of care and also it's cost -effective.
Hence , retention and recruitment are two important components for the organization to run. It has an overall impact on the society .The staff members must be provided with a good working environment and equipment, average number of patients , provision of all facilities to work in a effective way. Proper recruitment of staff members must be done involvong exam and verification of all documents to provide a patient centered ,quality and cost effective care . As it has an overall impact on the society , the legislation must take steps to avoid problems related to these two processes.
