1. Distinguish between the levels of prevention.
2. Identify the circumstances in which each level is indicated.
3. Provide examples of each prevention type.
Question 1
Answer: There are three levels of prevention. They are primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention. Primary prevention is a target on individuals who may develop risk medical conditions and provide intervention to prevent the onset of the disease. Secondary prevention is a target on individuals who may develop asymptomatic disease and institute treatment to prevent complications. Tertiary prevention is a target on individuals who is not able to cure the disease of the person.
Question 2
Answer: Primary is mainly focused on the prevention before development of the disease. Secondary focus on the early diagnosis and treatment for the disease on time. Tertiary prevention is mostly focused on the prevention of further complications and the provision of supportive care in the rehabilitation center.
Question 3
Answer: An example of primary prevention are vaccination, health education to the risk of people. Secondary prevention are screening test, routine test, medical treatment of disease. Tertiary prevention is palliative care treatment for cancer.
