Do Alan’s parents have the right to refuse blood transfusion based on their religious beliefs?
Consider the five components of ethical energy. To what extent do you believe nurses possess those abilities? Explain your thinking.
Any objections done by the parents regarding the blood transfusions based on their religious beliefs may cause many medical issues. If at all the patient has a major loss of blood due to any accident and if it is an emergency ,such situations can create a panic among the doctors and the medical staff which results in loss of life. This causes legal problems for the doctor to overcome a patient's refusal to consent to a transfusion. The ethical and legal issues that are raised by the patient in life saving situations becomes more dramatic and it is worth nothing. It only becomes a matter of debate in court sessions. Finally Alan's parents have all the rights to refuse transfusion but before doing that the patient parents should be needed to explain the life threatening situation that might arise later.
The five components of ethical energy for nurses to possess:
1.Understand the human existence and healing the person mentally, physically and spiritually.
2.Decision making skills which helps to take a good step in giving treatment to a person who is in emergency situations.
3.Maintaining the confidentiality of the patients.
4.Understand the moral principles.
5.Commitment to honesty and loyalty in their jobs.
Accoring to me nurses posess most of these abilities and their profession itself demands all these criteria's.The nurses should posess these abilities by planning care action which fulfils the clients need and status and to promote the continuity of care.Nurses work day and night to fulfil their jobs and in the same way they have the job satisfaction too in understanding the meaning of values, choices and priorities ,healing powers in treating a person.
