A child presents at your hospital in need of a blood transfusion. The parents are Jehovah's Witnesses and don't believe in transfusions. Without the transfusion the child will die. What do you do?
Jehovah's witness worldwide spread as a active
members and they are well-known religious community members they
refuse transfusion of blood transfusion..They will always carry a
signed and witnessed documents list which is acceptable for
them..
Advance decision may be informal to refuse life saving treatment
must conform as requirements of the mental capacity Act(MCA),,They
are the only validperson has varifies that the decision must be
writing, signed and ackowledged by the parents and a witness..In a
recent high court application from new castle according to
jehovah's witness faith and refusal of blood in any situation had
been documented in patient record..in life threatening situation
doctors and hospital want to protect the child life and want to do
the best for the child..State intervention into the private setup
of the family only when they focused for their child and family
rights decision..in this situation while parents determines what is
best for their child..
The supreme court was clear in upholding the
decision explaining that "the
right to practice religion freely but it ill not include the
freedom to expose the child health or death"..while respecting
parents wishes regarding blood products is must forthem..but the
judge concluded that because the child's welfare id highly
recommended so doctors can administer blood when it is
necessary..the child's interests always must..
But for adolescents court gave the oppurtunity to their interest to
accept or refuse the treatement by their choice..but it was wrong
to give them that choices..because religion beliefs is also
important and also a limited life experience can not truly forthem
to chance to get belief and same it can lead to death..
