What is the Youth risk behavior surveillance (YRBS). What kind of data do we get from this national dietary and nutrition surveys?
The Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) monitors six categories of health-related behaviors contributing to the leading causes of death and disability prevalent among youth and adults, including—
· Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence
· Sexual behaviors leading to unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV infection
· Alcohol and other drug abuse
· Tobacco abuse
· Unhealthy dietary behaviors
· Inadequate physical activity
· YRBSS also measures the prevalence of obesity, asthma, other health-related behaviors, sexual identity and sex of sexual contacts.
· National school-based survey conducted by CDC and state, territorial, tribal, and local surveys conducted by state, territorial, and local education and health agencies and tribal governments are included in YRBSS.
