In 250 words, How do we communicate what is acceptable online behavior to youth in a way that is accepted and clear? Furthermore, how do we limit the effects of “peer pressure” on technology use and acceptance, where friends post sensitive information about themselves or personal pictures that could be abused by others?
Technology today has gained importance in each and every area ranging from work to even learning how to cook food with the help of videos available. Social media, the 'subtle' gift of technology is not used actually in a very subtle manner rather it is used extensively and in inappropriate levels and amounts. Youth is associated and so concerned with their phones that they spend long hours on just thinking what to upload today on social media so that they can get their friend's attention and most of the likes and comments. They do not actually are concerned about what can actually happen or what misuse can be done with all such contents. Peer pressure has a great influence towards young people's behavior towards the unethical use of technology. Not just social media, viewing of pornography, politically getting involved and also some other inappropriate contents are easily accessible through online surfing and can even be accessed by children who are not even eligible to watch or use this content and can even hamper their mental and physical health. The most important thing to do to limit the effects of this technological advances is to keep oneself involved in a tight schedule or following some kind of routine tasks that you have always wanted to do. Parents should also give more time to children and adolescents by talking to them spending time with them, also keeping check on their online activities and schools should also educate students about various advantages and disadvantages of technology.
