Create a key (i.e., a list of locations, plants, animals, abiotic characteristics and human impacts) of both terrestrial and marine biomes of our planet.

Expert Solution

Terresrtial and Marine biomes .As the name suggests Terrestial Biome is an area of land where the same community of plants and animals survive and it is evaluated by the climate.

Aquatic biomes are mainly evaluated by sunlight and dissoved oxygen and nutrients in the water.Main aquatic biomes are Fresh water regions (ponds and lakes, streams and rivers, wetlands ) Marine regions include oceans, coral reefs, hydrothermal vents. Main plants in the aquatic biomes are grasses, rushes, sedges , tamarack and animals include repltiles , fishes and marine mammals like blue whale and seals  . Latitude, Humidity , Elevation etc affect the biome type.

Main terrestial Biomes adn their characteristics:

Biome Water Temperature Soil Plants Animals
Desert No water Hot Non fertile Succulents-Cactus, sage brush insects, reptiles , arachnids and birds
Forest Adequate Cool and Warm Fertile Trees and Shrubs Various animals
Grass Land Wet and Dry season Warm and Hot Fertile Grasses arachnids, birds, insects
Tundra Dry Cold Frozen Lichens and Mosses Migrating animals

The threats facing biomes today are enormous , directly or indirectly by human intervention altering the face of our existing biome. Deforestation and pollution led to global warming destroyed the land biome.Marine biome hasbeen polluted by the oil spills and fresh water biomes are threatened by the effects of dam and its redirection of water as well as the draining of wet lands .

Human can still reverse some of the damage of the biome by prioritizing the protection of forest , reducing the cut down of trees ,arranging welfare programms on afforrestion and also by controlling the position.
