List four key characteristics of the adaptive immune response
Adaptive or acquired response immunity is immunity that occurs after either a pathogen or a vaccination has been exposed to an antigen. This part of the immune system is triggered when the innate immune response is insufficient to regulate the infection.
The adaptive immune response helps the vertebrate immune system to identify and recall particular pathogens in order to produce immunity.
The cells of the adaptive immune response system are leukocyte type type ca a lymphocyte.i.e T lymphocyte and B lymphocyte
There are two types of adaptive reactions:
1. the cell-mediated immune response performed by T cells, and
2. the humoral immune response controlled by the activated B cells and antibodies.
Key characteristics of adaptive immune response
1.Antigenic specificity,
2.Diversity,
3. Immunologic memory and
4.Ability to distinguish between self and non-self.
An immune response includes cells (macrophages, B-cells and dendritic cells) and lymphocytes (B-cells and T-cells)
