Recognize management and leadership skills
Management is controlling a group and a set of entities to accomplish a goal and Leadership refers to a person's ability to influence, motivate others to contribute towards organizational goals and success. The skills needed for both roles overlaps with each other as both managers and leaders are problem solvers, decision makers who divides the time and resource optimally to achieve success.Good managers should strive towards becoming good leaders and good leaders need management skills to be efficient in what they do.
Some skills which everyone needs to be a good mananger and leader are as follows-
Honest- a person must be honest with what they do as their actions convey the message to others of what they are capable of and whether they take their position seriously or not.Doing the right thing and being honest with your work will make people follow you as they pay close attention to what leaders say and do.
Communicate- Communication is a key to successfully get what the organization is striving towards and taking the feedback is equally important as it tells you whether the message which was delivered was fully understood.A good leader and manager clearly set out goals and communicates it the employees of their roles and functions and what they are really expected to do so.
Delegate- A manager has to deal with alot of people who differs in their skills and have strengths and weakness. The manager has to properly divide the work between people so that there is right candidate for thr right job.One simply cannot put a marketing person in a finance role and expect him to perform. The leadership role will be to provide people with solutions in case they have any problem with their respective role.
Decision Making- perhaps the most important function of a leader or manager is to decide. The problems arise everyday which are often time constrained and there exists various alternative course of actions through which the problems can be resolved. While making decisons, one person has to judge all the courses of actions on their merits and demerits. If a decision is not yielding the desired results, it should be changed in time to avoid losses.
