What is the function of bile salts in digestion?
Bile contains bile acids, which are critical for digestion and absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins in the small intestine. Many waste products, including bilirubin, are eliminated from the body by secretion into bile and elimination in feces.
Bile has the function of emusification, which acts as a soap, can
break fat into small fat droplets.
Bile acid (salts) serve multiple functions, which include
elimination of cholesterol from the body, driving the flow of bile
to eliminate catabolites (catabolism= a set of metabolic pathways
which breakdown molecules into smaller units & release energy.
Large molecues such as polysaccharides, fatty acids, nucleic acids,
and proteins are broken down into smaller units = monosaccharides,
fatty acids, nucleotides & amino acids) from the liver, serving
to emulsify lipids and, fat soluble vitamins in the intestine and (
likely) to aid reducing the bacteria flora found in the small
intestine.
Bile is also used to break down fat droplets into tiny
droplets.
