People who are making less than $12500(less than the federal poverty level) as an employer-sponsored health insurance plan.

As per the US census data in 2018, about 14% of people in Georgia are uninsured. It has been leaving billions of dollars without providing Medicaid coverage to a vast number of people. They were only keen on federal funding to expand Medicaid.

2 laws made the expansion too difficult:-

  • HB 990
  • HB 943

By 2016, the Medicaid expansion was fueled by some hospitals that were facing a financial crisis. Georgia raised reimbursement rates for providers so that they would be able to accept Medicaid patients. Republican lawmakers also came with an opinion that, like in Arkansas, they would be able to open the privatized version of Medicaid expansion. Later, then Governor who opposed the expansion came with willingness.

Georgians who qualify these norms should have to pay a premium for the suitable coverages. This could be later used to purchase healthcare necessities. Also, the Governor stated it as an opportunity to make the future healthier.
