Identify power/influence tactics and their managerial applications, and explain the three types of conflict (task, process, relationship), the three loci of conflict (dyadic, intragroup and intergroup) and managerial implications for organizational behavior and performance.
· The influence tactics are of three types, namely-
a) Impression management tactics- It is the process of portraying others in such a way that there is a desired impression created in the process. Managers use this influence tactic to make the team members to like them. This is later used as a form of influence.
b) Political tactics- This tactic is used to influence the group or gain from the decisions. Managers use political tactics to get their things done or move up in their career.
c) Proactive tactics- As the name indicates, they are task oriented. These tactics are used to make the teams to do new tasks or accept change.
· Sources of conflict-
a) Task Conflict- refers to differences that is work related. There is a difference in the work particulars and the goals.
b) Relationship Conflict- refers to disagreements between individuals or group of individuals. There is differences of opinion among the individuals in the team or among different groups.
c) Process Conflict- refers to disagreement between the individuals over the methods or process or procedures. This is results when there is a clash between policies and strategies.
· There are two loci of conflict-
a) Intragroup conflict- occurs between individuals within the team.
b) Intergroup conflict- occurs between different groups.
c) Dyadic conflict- Both intragroup and intergroup results in dyadic conflict.
· Organizational Behavior (OB) plays a crucial role in the success of a company. Managers should understand the impact of individual and group behavior on organization. Managers play a crucial role in managing the organization. When managers understand the OB, the managers know how to motivate the employees. With the help of a good understanding of OB, managers are able to control the behavior of the employees. Thus, with the help of OB, organization makes optimum use of human resources and increased productivity.
