Discuss the evidence regarding the role of self-esteem in academic achievement
Research works have confirmed a positive relationship between self-esteem and academic achievement. Higher academic achievement is obtained by those who have high self-esteem. On the other hand, academic performance is recorded poorer by those students who have lower self-esteem. For example, self-esteem is one that helps a student in setting a goal and overcoming all hurdles to achieve success. Let us consider for example that a student "A" is constantly gaining low marks in the exam as he is being constantly tortured by his teachers and parents that he is not capable of the same. On the other hand, when a mentor approaches him and states that he can accomplish the mission far better than anyone else will give him much relief. Following this when strategies to achieve success are explained to him beautifully by the mentor, then the student will feel overall positive thinking regarding his ability. He will then begin to set the goal in the right direction and will start spending time more effectively as to accomplish the mission. Finally, when the academic result is announced, it can be noticed that his result has come up far better than the previous one. This is an example of evidence where increased self-esteem has improved the overall academic performance.
